BMT Group Services is seeking a certified Shop Supervisor – Lead Mechanic (NOC 72020) to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent position, 40 hours per week, $60.00 to $66.00 per hour.
Job Description:
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to technicians.
• Assist other technicians with major repairs.
• Assist in evaluations of all technicians in the designated shop.
• Provide “On Call” support to staff and main fleet customers as needed.
• Provide constructive feedback to all shop assigned technicians.
• Consult with service advisor about status of the vehicle repairs.
• Engage with external manufacturers technical support engineers when escalation of diagnostics and repair paths are required.
• Pose a functional knowledge of the parts system and communicate with parts department to obtain required parts.
• Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events and makes recommendations for other technicians within the shop.
• Communicate with Service Manager & HR regarding any personnel complications.
• Investigate the progress of vehicle repair completion by conducting periodic spot checks of all jobs throughout the day to ensure timely repairs, quality workmanship and cleanliness.
• Create departmental service orders as required and assign to the appropriate technician
• Review service orders as needed before hand off to Service Advisors for billing, customer communication.
• Identify issues with specialty tools and communicate to management and make recommendations for tool replacement and inventory control.
• Identify and communicate issues with management.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment and recommend improvements for shop safety.
• As needed, perform diagnostics and inspections to investigate and determine root causes of defective vehicle components and systems.
• Complete major repairs within specified times.
• Perform emergency service calls and field service calls when required.
• Perform efficient and effective vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, & component replacement.
• Perform unsupervised work as outlined on major repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
• Perform repairs to brakes, suspension, drive train, transmission, engine, emissions, electrical and other vehicle systems efficiently and following best practice repair procedures.
• Perform Government Safety Inspections (CVSE).
• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), pre-delivery (PDI), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
• Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Road test vehicles for evaluation and diagnostic purposes as well as post repair validation and performance verification.
• Operate shop equipment safely, report safety issues and recommends maintenance and repairs immediately to management.
Job Requirements:
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a qualified mechanic
• Red Seal Mechanic certification in Commercial Transport, Heavy Duty, or Automotive trade or equivalent training or experience.
• Commercial Vehicle Inspector Certification is an asset (additional hourly incentive).
• Cummins & Hino Certifications (additional hourly incentive).
• Minimum class 5 drivers license with a clean drivers abstract required (preferred Valid class 3 or 2 driver’s license with air endorsement).
• Must have a complete appropriate mechanic’s tool set.
We offer:
· Base rate $60.00 per hour, 40 hours per week.
· Additional hourly premium depending on the completion of the following: CVIP, Cummins, Hino, A/C, a Class 3 Driver’s License, and Level 2 First Aid (each providing an additional $1.00 per hour), maximum of $6 per hour or $66.00 per hour.
