Overview
Nevis Estate is looking for a Full-Time Executive Chef (NOC 62200)! This is a full-time, permanent position with 30-44 hours per week, $36.00/hour, plus gratuities.
The Executive Chef is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the culinary program at Nevis Estate, from menu design to daily kitchen operations. This role requires both strong leadership and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and cook when needed, especially during peak times or when staffing is limited.
Job Description:
Culinary Leadership & Operations
· Plan and direct food preparation and cooking activities across Nevis Estate’s operations, including restaurant service, banquets, weddings, and specialty functions.
· Plan menus that reflect creativity, seasonality, and quality, ensuring dishes meet the highest standards.
· Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets, and specialty functions to design personalized culinary experiences.
· Estimate food requirements and oversee food and labour cost control.
· Arrange for equipment purchases, repairs, and maintenance.
· Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff including chefs and cooks.
· Supervise kitchen activities to ensure efficiency, consistency, and adherence to quality standards.
Hands-On Cooking
· Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, particularly during high-demand periods, for special functions, or when short-staffed.
· Lead by example to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Farm-to-Table Collaboration
· Work with ownership to select vegetables and herbs for the Nevis Estate greenhouse.
· Incorporate estate-grown produce into seasonal menus and event offerings.
· Support sustainability initiatives and minimize food waste.
Job Requirements:
· Minimum 2-3 years of proven experience as an Executive Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a high-end hospitality environment (hotel, restaurant, or catering).
· Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and manage a team.
· Creative approach to menu development with a passion for local, seasonal ingredients.
· Knowledge of food cost management, vendor relations, and inventory control.
· Excellent organizational and client-relations skills, especially for weddings and large events.
· A collaborative, adaptable, and hands-on mindset.
